I grew up on the island of Trinidad, near the sea, and fell in love with the beauty of the water. Those early days surrounded by tropical beauty influenced my fascination with the sea and beauty of nature.
Early on my Mother, Grace, noticing I loved to draw, enrolled my sister and myself in art lessons. Later I studied art in college, and enjoyed a career in graphic design for over 25 years. I am inspired with visual communication – a well designed logo, a book cover, a piece of furniture, or a beautiful seascape.
I have been away from the studio since May helping my Father in Florida. In my spare time I’ve been working on taking photographs of this beautiful area, and building my library for future paintings.
In my art I try to communicate the emotions I feel from the subject matter – to share something of beauty with the viewer. I feel that there is need for me to create, that I want to capture the amazing feeling of the scene before me.
I paint mostly in pastels, but enjoy using acrylics and oils as well. Most of my work is seascapes, but I also paint landscapes, people, and commissioned work. I look forward to the future, and continue to develop my art with workshops and classes.
“We can ask no greater joy, than to go gently through this place that has been given to us, and make something out of it. Not necessarily to fully understand it, for that might be an impossible task, but to honor it in our own way.” – Robert Genn, painter and author of The Painter Keys.
