Painting gives me energy. As I have long stated, “It is the soul of my universe, gives comfort in my sorrow and is my reason to love.”
My early inspirations were the traditional markets, or “souks” of my homeland Morocco, and characters and scenes from here feature strongly in my work.
However, anywhere or anyone that affects me emotionally can be good subject matter.
I plan to expand my repertoire to paint Brazil, London, the Yorkshire Dales and other places which I have visited recently and I have enjoyed very much.
I paint in oils on a good quality linen canvas although I am experimenting with mixed media recently, as you can see in my painting “Coming Home.”
In 2009 I won the creativity award at the Contemporary Art Fair in Peking, China.
Recently, I feel my work is achieving more global recognition after having been chosen twice to exhibit with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London.
I am inspired by Joaquin Sorolla, the great Spanish painter, and his “lumiere” technique, or oil paintings infused with sunlight.
My ambition is to be famous. I want my paintings and my name to be recognised internationally, and to hold exhibitions in New York and Dubai.
Painting is my life blood and I am constantly pushing my limits, attempting to infuse my work with emotion and originality.
I want you, the viewer, to be able to enter into the scene and breathe the scents of the souk, taste the spices, hear the music of traditional musicians and enter into my universe.
