Enjoy the fascinating work of artist Philip Noyed, whose work with color and light transcends photography to create a unique viewer experience. See more of his art by visiting his website.
I create art that explores color, light and space and am fascinated by how these elements affect us emotionally and physiologically. Light and color are frequencies that are like vitamins effecting our mood, energy, even health. I am focused on creating art experiences that transport the viewer to new levels of engagement and sensation.
I create a series called Geometric Illuminations. These images are based on a radical reinterpretation of photography. I take photos of my abstract paintings with slow shutter speeds and rapid motion sweeps to create soft, colorful compositions. Some of these images stand strongly as ephemeral luminescent visuals in the traditional rectangular form.
For other images, I use technology to amplify colors and forms digitally to become new, often fractal or kaleidoscopic images and shapes. The rectangle shape is widely used for paintings and photographs as a window.
I change the shape of the image so it is not just an image but also an object. I apply images to geometrically shaped acrylic and frame with white acrylic that houses LED lights that make the images glow at any hour.
I am striving, in the Geometric Illumination series, to free images from just being wall decorations. I want people to see all around images – in tubes, triangles, cubes or even as free-floating mobiles activating space and looking different from every vantage point.
The final pieces are as much sculptural forms as they are photographs. Light moves within and through these artworks to directly touch viewers.
As art installations change from every vantage point when looking at them, I’m also intrigued with having visitors go inside my new Rainbow Pyramids to enjoy the art experience within the artwork.
Albert Einstein said, “The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental cradle of true art and true science.” The Pyramid is a powerful form that acts as both a receiver and a transmitter. The pyramid goes through the colors of the rainbow or chakras. I hope that people will find a beauty by being IN the form and colors.
