I base my foundation through musicality, principles of theater, and the philosophy of life forged into my works.
I am influenced by Western contemporary abstract expressionism united with the essence of Eastern oriental aesthetics. The core value of my work depicts how opposing forces contradict one another, and yet how they are mutually interconnected and inseparable through the fundamentals of the Yin and Yang.
These contradictory yet complimentary polar opposites are present in every painting I create in an effort to achieve equilibrium in one’s mind, body, and soul – to embody total oneness.
My vision is to unite and share my painting philosophy with the Western world, allowing Western society to become more acquainted with Eastern heritage, tradition, and oriental aesthetics by connecting through my artworks.
My inspiration comes from the initiation of Chinese splash ink representing the natural state and flow of ink on paper, to absolute control of ink wash reinvented with harmonious proportions of splash color by pioneer Zhang Da-Qian as well as through the artistic conception and composition of Chinese Shan Shui merged with Western contemporary abstract expressionism by master painter Zao Wu-Ki.
The vivid colors I use and the spiritual movement encompassed within each definitive brushstroke, allows the canvas to possess continuous fluidity and vitality of life from Zhu De-Chun.
For me, life has always been exploring deep into the vast unknown as a painter. In my artistic career, I have ventured into the fields of folk song singer and songwriter, author, to managing my own restaurant. I have respectfully dedicated thirty years perfecting my craft in children’s theater as a director, playwright, and actor.
During my travels in 1995, I was fortunate to encounter a master painter from Singapore. Under his guidance, I found my love and passion for abstract painting, a world I was previously unacquainted with. In time, I ultimately shifted my paradigm from composing realism to abstract.
My philosophy toward painting imbues elements from all the realms I have walked through in the course of my life, including those described as serene, subtle, pure and elegant. My audience is drawn into my art by their wandering thoughts as their unsettled eyes linger within each composition. This emotionally unites them with grace through purifying and rejuvenating the soul. I have concluded that art is an entity that propels me onward allowing me to pursue and attain peace of mind.
