Artist JD Miller refers to himself as a Reflectionist. His 3D sculpted oil paintings have been called transcendental, allowing the viewer to experience his art in their own way. Learn more by visiting his website.
My goal is to continue to explore the Reflectionist school of art and 3D oil painting. There are now about twenty artists using the techniques I discovered.
It is quite satisfying to see my techniques giving other artists a new means of expression within the traditional oil painting world.
My work is constantly changing. I am fortunate to be able to paint exactly what I want, whenever I want to.
One day it could be a large-scale abstract, then a more traditional 3D floral painting, and the next it might be a bright acrylic on paper.
As a Reflectionist, I am always doing my best to be fully present in the moment and listen to my inner voice as it unfolds.
It helps to remember that no matter what I am emanating, whether positive or negative, the universe is amplifying and mirroring it back. Therefore, I do my best to focus on the higher vibrations such as love, joy, serenity, and gratitude.
I am inspired by each and every moment of life. It is such a gift to be alive and expressing my experience as a human being in art.
The fact that I am able to make my living doing what I love is incredibly inspiring. Each unfolding moment is a new experience and I simply do my best to reflect each of those experiences as they present themselves.
I believe Eckhart Tolle described it best in his book The Power of Now. He basically says the past and the present are an illusion and the only reality we experience is the present. I couldn’t agree more!
That gets me fired up each and every day to go in the studio and celebrate this marvelous experience. When I am in the studio, time and boundaries magically disappear and the gift of artistic expression flows freely.
