Although I fell in love with photography while I was in the US Navy, my photography career started as an editorial photographer in the era of film a few years after my discharge. It was a great privilege for me to work for national and international magazines on stories ranging from the lights of Paris, jazz in New Orleans, Christmas in Germany and the Great Little Trains of Wales. As with all assignments, I had to work within the constraints of the story while being creative and developing my own style.
As I slowly entered the digital age, I also moved into fine art photography, while still doing assignments. Now I am primarily a fine art photographer.
These days with new innovations in technology seeming to appear daily, I find that photography is more of a joy that it ever was. My creativity seems to be in constant flux as I explore new avenues to improve my images and how I view the world around me.
With the improvements in today’s technologies, I am able to create the vision I had in mind when I clicked the shutter. With my fine art photography, I try to explore a full spectrum of ideas covering color, black and white, and combinations of both. Thankfully, I have had success in each, which makes me challenge myself even more.
I heard a wonderful quote recently, which was, “If you have no destination you can’t get lost and if you have no timetable, you can’t be late.” One of my greatest joys is to set out walking with no goal in mind, other than photography.
The greatest pleasure on these outings is finding something extraordinary in the ordinary. Sometimes I am surprised that a photograph I thought would be extraordinary when I took it, is sometimes overshadowed by a photo that seems mundane at the moment of capture.
For me, photography can be full of surprises no matter what is planned in advance. The surprises are what make photography the most interesting.
I have been very honored to have photographs hung at the National Geographic Society in both Explorer Hall and the Traveler Magazine offices. Since beginning fine art photography full-time, I have been selected for numerous juried shows both nationally and internationally.
My photos hang regularly at the Art League of Alexandria in Virginia, the Circle Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland and the Blank Wall Gallery in Athens, Greece.
All photographs printed and signed by me are part of a limited edition of ten and come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Absolutely wonderful Ron! Your photographs do indeed tell stories. Light, color, composition — your work has it all. What a pleasure to see your art.
Thank you, Roberta. It is always nice when someone appreciates your work.
These photographs are so rich. I really enjoyed seeing them, and reading Ron’s thoughts about his process. I especially relate to the unique pleasure that surprise can bring to an artistic process. I also love the “no destination/no timetable” quote! Thanks for sharing these images.
Hi Paula, Thank you for your kind words. Positive feedback is motivating, especially on my lazy days..
