I mute the background so that the animal appears to be living within the space of the canvas, and could take a breath at any moment.

I love the challenge of painting realistically, because I love the results when it has been accomplished with excellence. Many people who see my work in real life express the desire to touch the fur, because of the way it has been painted.

I started drawing portraits for pocket money during high school while living in Zambia, and soon realised that it was something I was very good at. After studying in New Zealand, I moved to Australia, which is where my career started to become a reality. By 2015, I was pursuing it full-time.

Oil on linen is my next step, as I have found a love for the medium through working casually at an art store, and I can’t wait to share all the plans I have for the future of my work in the upcoming months!

Although my main focus is on wildlife, I still love painting portraits and seeing characters develop on the page or canvas as I work.

My latest series of drawings took my realistic fine art to a new level as I illustrated the faces of four apes as if they were photographs.

This way of looking at a painting has become my main inspiration for future work. I don’t just want to create art that looks good in a home, but art that has a presence in a room, that embodies the subject in a way that allows you to experience the artwork as an interactive meeting.
