Artist Fabrice de Paola’s paintings reveal a dreamlike world of abstract, highly expressive figures formed with strong lines, shapes, color and pattern. See more of his portfolio by visiting his website.
I am of French and Italian descent, and have always been strongly influenced in my work as a creative individual by Munch, Le Greco, Delacroix, Schiele, Gaudi, Picasso, Cocteau and Fra Angelico, as well as artists from other creative fields.
I studied Art and Fashion Design at the Duperé School, and worked as a designer for brands such as Xavier Darnaud and Hom in Paris. Then I moved into a different form of creative expression— painting—beginning with pastel, and rapidly evolving into acrylic.
I have been painting for more than fifteen years, and have been developing with my unconventional subjects and their sensual curves and vibrant colors, an ambiguity that captivates the observer. My art confronts subjects that often seem emotionally damaged. I often return to the theme of the primitive symbol of the woman, which I usually express with movement and fluidity within a balanced duality that keeps its intimacy.
My creations are expressive and hypnotic, and often fuse sexuality and temptation. They are a pictorial otherworldly universe between figurative and abstract in a “disorganized order” or an “organized disorder” depending on the mood and the viewpoint of the observer.
I have been influenced by my work in the fashion industry which has led me to create in different formats—painted couture mannequins reveal unique, highly graphic and always figurative artistic compositions.
I am continuously inquisitive, so I work with porcelain, glass, furniture and other unusual pieces. My versatile eccentricity expresses itself in in a loose style that sometimes encompasses cubic forms and decorative accents.
“The artist conveys in some of his paintings a tender, nostalgic complicity with a nonchalant elegance that have nothing to envy to the Polynesians of Gaugin’s painting.” Mickael Sabatier / Exhibition guide
I consider myself a pure, free spirit. My painting is a refuge where liberty and independence are quintessential. I believe that a true artist, free of all convention, is one who allows his soul to thrive on art, thereby filling his constant need for a unique form of self-expression.
My personal vibrant artwork has nurtured many followers. The subtle nuances I use in my work are part of my pledge to make a perennial contribution to the world of creativity.
I am participating in an Atelier called “En Art…” that will be open in March, 2018 in Monpazier, France. Exhibits will include paintings, sculpture, photography and other art mediums.
