Twenty-two artists were invited to share their work in this midsummer Artist Showcase. Using a variety of different styles and mediums, these artists all bring their passion to the world of art. Learn more about each artist by clicking their name.
Like all children on a long car ride, I would ask “Are we there yet?” I paint “there.”
I’ve grown so much artistically using a digital medium. I start with a blank virtual canvas and paint my work. Once complete, I can use digital manipulations to create a more compelling piece of art.
The bold brushstrokes in this painting are consistent with my style. I use these strokes to help bring out the vibrancy and spirituality of womanhood. These are the focal points of the majority of my work.
A challenging medium and one I’m passionate about is painting with dye on silk. It’s a traditional art form used in an innovative, contemporary style. The multi-layered silks generate paintings which exist on their own terms outside the confines of prescribed limits.
Traveling often, I’ve adopted a spontaneous style of shooting called “What I See.” I find subjects that interest me, whether it’s a city scene, landscape or a camera technique like light painting or long exposure.
I use my canvas to bring extraordinary life to the ordinary thoughts and feelings of the heart. Layers of color twined with intuitive marks enchant the mind to experience a delightful journey of the imagination.
Creating futuristic worlds and people that draw upon the landscapes of my native home, Santa Fe, I inspire audiences to embrace the beauty and empowerment of life’s inevitable battlefields through Southwestern nostalgia and SciFi imagination.
My current well-being is the source of my joy and creativity. I see these petals dancing and swaying, maybe around a bonfire, or maybe around the house (like me), but certainly enjoying life – like me!
I am best known for my impressionist and fauvism styles of acrylic paintings of horses. Bursting with bright colors, my emotional response to horses is transferred onto canvas, yet my work retains the realistic values of my subjects.
My photo-paintings are created to spread love and light in the midst of crisis and chaos. The pieces represent my rebirth and journey back to whole health.
Through its infinite self-expressions, nature shows me the possibilities of pushing the envelope of artistic creation.
I draw inspiration from nature, road trips, and continual visits to the Southwest. My paintings are interpretations of travel, about expression and movement creating works that engage the viewer, taking them on a journey.
The imagery in this work, from the NANOPRESENT series, is centered around the Hollywood sign, and bespeaks of the grand illusion of Hollywood that has assumed a parallel reality in our lives.
Using a vocabulary of personal symbols, I build up layers of materials to express my belief in the underlying unity of everything in the universe. I’m constantly searching for more effective methods of revealing this mystery.
It is by a very intuitive inspiration, while reviving my multicultural awareness, that I let humanity emerge in colorful scenes of characters that invite the visitor in his personal history.
The joy of looking at small corners of the world—woods, ponds, even a clump of dandelions pushing up out of the woodpile, is the stimulus. Capturing the feeling is the goal.
Through the use of Surrealism with detailed or loosely simplified forms, my oil paintings explore narratives about nostalgia, wonder and the resiliency of the human spirit.
I love the feeling of total connection and energy of life when I paint eyes. It speaks to me.
When an assailant tried to take my life, I found courage I didn’t know I possessed and artistry I never imagined . . . writing books and speaking the inspirational messages of my Joy’s Garden Paintings.
My collages are inspired by my love of vivid colors and hues arranged intuitively to evoke an emotional response. I enjoy mystifying viewers with my abstract compositions, pondering whether they may actually be paintings.
I depict women through life–their secrets, needs, desires, fears, loves, losses, friendships and trust, seen through gesture, expressions, recognizable place and time. Color, composition, and story convey the subconscious emotional yearnings and connections we all share.
Within every piece of my art is a story of our unplugged natural world. As a lifelong outdoor explorer, I’ve experienced incredible beauty in natural landscapes. I draw inspiration from these experiences in textured watercolor.
