I was born and grew up in Australia and have dual U.S./Australian citizenship. I have worked and was schooled in art in Australia, the United States, India, Italy and now Mexico. My art is in private collections worldwide. I have exhibited in international shows, mostly in France.
With a grant in 1979, I studied the Renaissance for three months under the supervision of Ivo Bomba, lecturer at the Academia di Belle Arte, Rome. With a 1999-2000 grant, I traveled much of India studying the way the religions express their philosophies through the arts. In 2003 with a grant, I extended this study to Balinese culture.
This solid foundation has been supported by traveling to countries with diverse cultures and is also infused with a long, sincere exploration of eastern philosophy. I am fortunate to be able to draw upon an international mix of influences, a lifetime of artistic development and a deep inner awareness to create art that is uplifting.
At this exciting stage of my career, I’m extremely energetic, confident and inspired by a wellspring of ideas and have the ability to materialize and communicate them. The accumulative effect of forty years of a strict yoga meditation practice has saturated my art with a subtle, yet powerful, authoritative energy.
In 2006, I moved my studio from upstate New York to Mexico. In order to support a deeper concentration on my art while working alongside my jewelry designer wife, we purposefully reestablished ourselves in a relaxed environment with beautiful surroundings in a quiet country town close to the rapidly advancing Mexico City international art scene.
Through continual work and study I live a harmonious life, working full-time in an relatively anxiety free lifestyle (well, almost—I have two young children five and seven years old!) My artistic goal is to bring some of this personal harmony out into a seemingly chaotic world.
There is one extra unique influence in my art that in the past I have hesitated to reveal, but now have to admit has profoundly changed my artist personality. In 2000, I crashed through a window while playing with children, basically severing my painting hand and almost bleeding to death.
Rushed to a major American trauma center, a team of expert surgeons saved the hand but expected a complete loss of use, as I initially lost all the nerves, tendons and both arteries. A year later they were happily mystified when most of my dexterity returned through a strange but natural process related to my meditation yoga practice. A world famous hand surgeon proclaimed they haven’t seen anyone in the world recover to my level.
For a while I was crushed by this nightmarish accident, but the mysterious healing returned me to my art transformed with renewed abilities very different from the past.
My art career trajectory was nudged off its course and opened to larger forces. Although I went through lot of pain and suffering, I began to see how fortunate I was. I’m aware now of this power that miraculously healed me being a constant companion in my studio as I work.
