First and foremost, I am the luckiest forty-something single mum of two amazing teenagers—a pigeon pair. Next (I love my job!) I am an artist, obviously, and run my own art gallery and art supplies store in my hometown of Broken Hill in outback New South Wales, Australia.

 

 

I always had an eye and talent for drawing as a child. I dabbled in the craft growing up and also as a young adult, though I never had any intentions of becoming an artist professionally. By the age of twenty-seven, I had given it up altogether.

 

 

After going through a grueling divorce, some tough life lessons, and depression and anxiety, I found my way back to creating again in 2005. Painting gave me strength and focus and filled my heart and soul with self-worth. It was also a time when the internet was exploding, which opened up my small world and sparked and encouraged my fast-emerging artistic dreams. In 2006, I took the plunge and decided to follow art as a career path.

 

 

Early in 2011, a prestigious gallery in New York City contacted me and encouraged me to submit a portfolio to their gallery. This not only cemented my idea of being a professional artist, but also led to many more incredible opportunities over the past seven years. I have exhibited numerous times within Australia and overseas—in the United States, Italy, France and London, while also racking up some great awards along the way.

 

 

I am a self-proclaimed perfectionist but I have learned to treasure this characteristic. It resonates in my work, particularly in my strong lines. I love the striking boldness of saturated acrylics, the splendor of intense brilliant block colour and striking contrast and the sensual curves of the female form. With hand and brush I achieve beautiful, unyielding saturation while exhibiting a meticulous sense of order. This results in an impeccable print-like quality, often with a splash of sass.

 

 

Ultimately, inspired greatly by my own journey comprised of years of self-discovery, the ups and downs and the determination and strength I didn’t even know I had, my paintings reveal a woman’s innate spirit. They celebrate her sensuality and sexuality, her secrets and mystery, and most significantly, her confidence and her spirited strength of character.

 

 

I hope my artwork inspires and empowers women of all ages, helping them to embrace and revel in similar attributes within themselves while also reminding every man of the strong, beautiful women in their everyday lives.
