My roots started in a region of southwest Virginia called Christiansburg. Everyone encouraged me with strong accolades throughout my childhood to become an artist.
Making art is all I have ever wanted to do, and I knew this early on.
My goals and my determination to create art have never changed. I had incredible and firm guidance from teachers, professors and patrons which helped me on the path to becoming a painter.
The dream of being an automobile illustrator began several decades ago, even though at the time, there were very few women painting images of cars. I was determined to make it to the top of the field. In my own small way, I have.
All of the traveling, exhibitions and stories from my journey have inspired other women to undertake this unique area of art. I have had the privilege of being a role model for females and males along this chosen path—being able to share my skills, philosophy, discipline and work ethic.
I am inspired by those who work really hard at their craft and are motivated to produce consistently strong works of art. These inspirations empower me to create. My competitive spirit and spark, as some have called this, pushes me to improve and hone my craft.
I have developed my technique which includes using opaque gouache to flatten shapes and connect each shape to the next. Color plays a huge part in my work, bringing a bright and imaginary glow to the automobiles and surrounding landscape.
Nature’s landscapes and the environment make my subjects come to life with colorful and whimsical use of lines, shapes and color.
I want my art to continue to attract the attention of viewers who are excited about fantasy imagery, strong color, tiny lines and flat shapes. There is a powerful passion that is created with each line as the process makes shapes that are then filled with dramatic color.
My wish is that I continue to produce fascinating paintings as this is my world. It is who I am. My paintings make me happy and remind me that I have a purpose on this earth.
