From a very early age, I was exposed to and encouraged by my parents to experiment with various forms of art. I drew, took dance classes, and was part of a performing drama group.
After I obtained a college degree in Art and Design from The Art and Design Institute in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, I decided to make a career change and switched to business. It was the practical thing to do, as many of my artist friends struggled to support themselves.
An opportunity to continue my business education in the United States brought me to Chicago, where I obtained an MBA from North Park University.
Regardless of the business direction my life took, art continued to be a big part of my life. So, after putting my art career on hold for twenty-five years, I took a ceramics class. That was a turning point in my life.
I have been actively pursuing ceramics for almost three years now. Clay is an incredible medium to work with and I enjoy the journey it has taken me on.
I like to implement nature in my art and I draw inspiration from it. Leaves, flower-like elements, clean organic forms—they are all present in my work.
I love the fact that clay allows me to create art that possesses dynamic motion and direction. With every piece I try to create movement.
There is a surprise at every angle and no side is the same. Just as life is constantly changing, I want my art to represent this change.
I like to work in a larger scale, implementing both wheel throwing and hand-building techniques when creating my art. I like to work large. Large ceramic pieces are like large canvases—they provide more room for expression.
My style is still evolving and I cannot wait to see what I create in one, five or ten years. I am so looking forward to the journey that is ahead of me!
