I have been an artist since I was a little girl, drawing outside of the lines.
I break rules, I experiment.
I work in a variety of mediums—encaustic, oils and photography. As a visual person and a collector of imagery, I create my art to reflect what I experience in the world. My work represents my internal life.
I have always been delighted with old walls, the peeling of walls, the colors, the shapes, the way that the light reflects at different times of the day, the rusting that occurs when light, water, and aging happen.
I try to represent this aesthetic in my paintings. I love deep saturated colors.
Recently someone told me that paintings with a lot of red in them do not sell well. I have found this to actually not be true. Red is a very emotional color and represents passion, strength and warmth of feeling. Many of my paintings have red in them.
I work with both encaustic, and oil and cold wax. I love the transparent quality and the ability to scrape through layers and add collage materials. It can be a physical, three-dimensional medium, or a monotype.
When the weather is too hot to work with hot wax, I work with cold wax and oils which has a very different feel to it.
With both mediums, I can create layers and embed collage materials, or stay in two dimensions.
I am mainly self-taught. I’ve been exhibited nationally and internationally and have received numerous awards. I also teach classes in digital art in Marin county California.
