The women in my paintings radiate self-confidence, strength and empowerment as well as being feminine and mysterious.
Always self-assured and determined, they represent what captivates me in other women—the qualities I admire and the strengths that I strive to gain.
Since the beginning of my artistic journey, I have always been drawn to portrait painting. Contemporary women have been the main focus of my work, and although the subject hasn’t changed, the style in which I paint continuously evolves.
I draw inspiration from almost everything in my environment. Right now, I’m fascinated by flowers—different shapes, sizes, colors, movement and arrangement.
My recent work features beautiful women with bold, vibrant flowers, covering their eyes and extending around their heads to create a flowering crown.
The floral element in my portraits initially started out as abstract, creating an impressionistic contrast to the realistic approach I have traditionally used for facial features. More recently, however, floral details have taken over the focus of the canvas—turning into blooming crowns.
I have found that the flowers and the human element have merged in the painting, creating an integration of woman and nature.
I’m inspired by fashion photography as well as pop culture and the perception of beauty and its varying trends. These concepts all are at play in my work.
I enjoy using materials in an unconventional way. In some of my works, you’ll see elements of sand and gold leaf on the canvas, along with soft pastels. Mixing classical portrait colors with fluorescents and bright hues brings a sense of joy and happiness to the artwork, while brightening up the space around it.
My work is expressive in that it communicates a sense of power, strength and confidence in its beauty. I want my work to express sentiment that commands attention, drawing the audience in to be immersed in color. I want my work to stand out, to stir up a conversation and to emulate the contemporary woman.
