The main focus in my paintings is to celebrate womanhood, to dive into the mysteries of our human condition as emotional beings and to dig into the labyrinths of our psyche.
I find it fascinating and a challenge to try to translate emotional states into visual declarations.
In my paintings, I present images composed of diversified interpretations of women in conjunction with elements of nature and mystical imagery and iconography.
This surrealistic body of entities may be interpreted within various realms. The first is presented to us as a fraction of time frozen within the narrative of a tale. It is up to the viewer to define the harmonious or dysfunctional character of it.
The second realm of interpretation turns the beholder’s vision towards oneself. Depending on the level of vulnerability that the viewer adds, these images open an opportunity for search, analysis and self-discovery.
Throughout the years I have fallen in love with oil paint. I find it to be the most noble medium. It can be thinned out to look almost like watercolor or be sculptural enough to have texture that can be felt with the eyes. I have used this versatility throughout all of my artwork.
I have found that using painting as a source for my own emotional healing, as well as personal discovery, creates a deeper meaning for me as well as for the viewer.
I always try to speak directly from my heart and know it will resonate with other women. The path I have followed during this artistic journey—the study of psychology, of mythology, theology, iconography—as well as all encounters women have had through history has been extremely fascinating to me.
At the end, if I combine the myth, the psyche, the emotion and the contemporary feel, I know my work is complete for me.
