Art has been a major factor in my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve used creativity in some form for most of my life.
I have always felt that if I didn’t do something creative at least once a week, I’d cease to exist. I grew up in Montana and moved around a bit before settling back in the state. In 2017, I began to focus full-time on my art after leaving a long career in the floral industry. It filled my need to stay busy.
Then I discovered alcohol inks. I fell in love with their vibrancy and how they can not only be manipulated, but work just as well remaining loose and free.
When I am working on a project and things aren’t going as planned, I tend to use whatever medium or trick I have to get to the point I am trying to make. This is why most of my paintings and other art have a bit of mixed media. Some of my favorite mediums are alcohol inks, Brusho watercolor, encaustic wax and oil and cold wax.
I love to challenge myself and try new things. When I feel like I may not be able to do something well, I jump in with both feet and find a way through. I believe that is when I create my best work. My favorite moment is when I can see things coming together and the direction the painting is going.
I find inspiration in so many things, from my surroundings to my travels. At times I go through phases where I change the subjects I work on. I’ll paint a bunch of animals and then switch to florals and back to portraits, all in a period of a year.
I’m currently in the portrait phase of my journey. I always try to paint what is calling me. I believe strongly in challenging myself and am constantly finding and learning new ways and new things to keep my art fresh and fun.
I’m a contributor and instructor through The Alcohol Ink Art Community and The Fine Art Cafe as well as at some local businesses. Sharing what I’ve learned encourages me and gives me confidence in my own work. I really love it when a student finds their voice and their way through the art process.
