I am a formally educated artist with training from some of the best teachers and artists in the world, beginning with my personal mentor Arthur Lismer (a founder of Canada’s world renowned Group of Seven) and many others at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Banff School of Arts in the 1960’s.

 

 

I’ve been painting as a full time working artist for nearly 60 years. I have created a significant body of artwork over that time, most of which are in the hands of collectors, institutions, corporations or museums.

 

 

During the past 20 years, I’ve been working in a style of painting dubbed “Brickilism”™ that uses bricks of bold colour to create a painting, much like the old masters George Seurat and Claude Monet used pointillism as their style.

 

 

I paint representational works using acrylic paint on canvas, thus the choice of subject matter is critical.

 

 

I love to paint natural settings such as water, land, animals and forests but in a way that captures special moments in time. I also strive to tell a story that creates an emotional response to the images. My paintings come from my mind but are echoes of memories from my travels and experiences.

 

 

I continue to enjoy exhibiting my work in commercial galleries and group exhibitions. As an elected member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Society of Canadian Artists and the Artists for Conservation, I’ve participated in several shows in the past year and was delighted to be named the 2022 Artist of the Year by the Nature Trust of British Columbia.

 

 

I live and work in Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada. Many of my works are inspired by the West Coast sea and landscape. I’m also deeply concerned about the potential loss of habitat for many of the wild creatures that we are responsible for protecting and nurturing. Some of my work reflects that concern but with a hopeful bias.

 

 

I’ve been described as a visual storyteller who captures the special moments in life and preserves them for all time.

 

 

I see myself as a simple artist who just needs to pick up a brush every day and paint to move images from my head and heart onto canvas in order to share them with others.

 

 

Overall, my artistic mission is to sensitize viewers to the fragile beauty of nature and the wildlife it supports in the hope that those who engage with my art will be inspired to help conserve this precious resource.
