Creativity has always been a part of me. Arts and crafts as a child inadvertently shaped me to love all things connected to designing.
In high school, I focused on two dimensional art. I was accepted into the Missouri Fine Arts Academy one summer, which was a wonderful experience. It helped me realize that I wasn’t passionate about drawing and painting per se, but it turned out to be great training for designing jewelry.
After high school, my parents and I decided to open our own business, a jewelry store, since my dad is a highly talented goldsmith. I threw myself into studying jewelry design through the ages, learning the importance of fine craftsmanship and attention to detail.
My dad encouraged my creativity, telling me that I was the most naturally talented designer that he’d ever worked with. It was quite a compliment after his 30+ years in the jewelry industry.
I won my first design award at age 19. Then at 21, I won the most prestigious award in the jewelry industry, an American Gem Trade Association Spectrum Award.
After designing thousands of pieces for our store, I started working in a new medium: resin and sterling silver. Hand carving the models, making molds and custom coloring the resin gives me the joy of designing plus the satisfaction of making pieces with my own hands, every step of the way.
It’s also opened a whole new world of design: jewelry with a sense of whimsy and fun. Large earrings that we could never make in gold or silver due to the weight of the metal and gemstones, are light as a feather.
I also love seeing the reactions of children’s faces when they see jewelry designed for the young at heart.
I find inspiration for my designs in so many places and make a variety of different styles of jewelry because of it. I’m passionate about designing and handcrafting jewelry that connects with people. I love making jewelry every day and I’m thrilled to have found my true calling!
