Illustrator and surface designer Kathrin Legg reflects a nostalgic, simple way of life in her charming portfolio. Learn more about her by visiting her website.
My name is Kathrin and for as long as I can remember, I have always loved drawing, painting, color, patterns and creating.
I was born into a creative family and have been surrounded by art teachers and sculptors all my life, so creativity is always encouraged and celebrated.
I completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Newcastle, Australia. But it was several years later that I discovered art licensing which opened so many opportunities for my work to be used in a commercial setting.
I concentrated on building a portfolio of illustrations and patterns that have since been printed and sold on fabric, greeting cards, shoes, home décor items, phone covers and stationery.
Alongside licensing my illustrations and patterns, I also sell a range of my designs on greeting cards and cotton/linen tea towels which are 100% Australian made.
My designs are modern with a hint of nostalgia and a touch of Nordic charm. I feel drawn to drawing floral patterns and timeless illustrations that remind me of the simple life.
I was born in Germany, but I grew up on a farm in Northern NSW, Australia. Farm animals, baking bread, vegetable gardens, wildflowers and seasonal fruit picking are all part of my childhood memories.
I live in the city now with my husband and two children, but I still love baking our own fresh sourdough bread and tending to the little flower patch on the balcony. I want my illustrations to convey a sense of coziness and minimalistic lifestyles that evoke feelings of tranquility.
