I’ve always been interested in art and spent as much time as possible creating various kinds of artwork.
When I was very young, I would spend time outside with my sketch books, drawing leaves and flowers, constantly fascinated by the details and structure of the veins.
Due to regular life issues, I had to put art aside for several years. I returned to art later in life and found that I still had that same familiar passion from before. Obtaining my degree in Graphic Design, I worked in that field for many years. I also became an adjunct instructor teaching graphic design at the same college where I obtained my degree.
After leaving corporate America, I knew that I missed hands-on art. I became certified as a Certified Zentangle Instructor and returned to my teaching career by offering classes as a CZT. I resumed my love of botanical drawing and included that in my class repertoire.
During the pandemic, I discovered the world of colored pencils and immediately knew that I found a perfect art medium match for me.
I immersed myself in the colored pencil world by learning from many other instructors and reading many books on the subject.
My original passion for nature continues in my artwork. I’ve always loved gardening and bearded irises are my favorite flower to grow and draw. The irises have such an intricate vein structure and I love the ruffles and folds.
I ‘m continually intrigued by the realism achieved by colored pencils. In addition to creating my own colored pencil works of art, I also teach several kinds of art both in person and online.
I have won several awards for my colored pencil art. My artwork has been included in the North Carolina Museum of Art for the Dutch Art in a Global Age Exhibit. I continue to learn from others as much as possible in my endeavor to constantly improve my skills.
