I’ve been a professional artist for over thirty-five years. I create oil paintings of national parks and western landscapes in my signature style featuring brilliant hues, dramatic contrasts, and stylized forms.
My training includes classical portrait workshops with the late Daniel E. Greene and with Johanna Harmon. Settling in Colorado twenty years ago, I was eager to paint the gorgeous scenery of the west. I learned landscape painting in plein air workshops with Jane Hunt, Marc Hanson, and John Taft. I desired to add horses to my western scenes and studied with Jill Soukup at Art Students League Denver. At Zapata Ranch we sketched, sculpted and painted horses from life in Jill’s Painting Horses Workshop.
My accomplishments include Bell Dance Taos Pueblo shown in The Butler Institute of American Art Midyear Exhibition, Youngstown, Ohio, and Lower Falls of Yellowstone shown in C.M. Russell Museum, Great Falls, Montana. Black Canyon of Gunnison was exhibited in US Senator Michael Bennet’s Office, Washington DC.
Cache de Poudre won an Award of Excellence from Celebrate the Healing Power of Art, Manhattan Arts International. Good Samaritan Cancer Center purchased Cache de Poudre because it is welcoming and healing, for permanent display at the check-in desk of the new facility.
I exhibited during Western Art Week in the Western Masters Art Show/ Best Western Heritage Inn in Great Falls, Montana. My historical painting Night the Stars Fell on Bents Fort was sold at the C.M. Russell Museum. Lower Falls of Yellowstone sold as a wedding gift from the groom to the bride, who were being married at the base of the Lower Falls.
Osmosis Gallery in Niwot, Colorado featured my National Parks series. Mountain Living Magazine published Healing Views by Laura Beausire in their 25th Anniversary Issue. Grand Prismatic Spring sold to new collectors for their Yellowstone bedroom in their mountain cabin.
Art Comes Alive! awarded me Landscape Artist of the Year at Art Design Consultants (ADC) Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio. My solo show National Parks and Cloudscapes opened at ADC Gallery. Plein Air Magazine published my painting Grandview Sunset Grand Canyon in their National Parks Portfolio. Maroon Bells and Lake hung in Governor Polis’ Office in the Colorado State Capitol for the Colorado Day Exhibition.
Manhattan Arts International Online Showcase Gallery represents me in New York City. Bluebird Skies Walden Pond won a Special Recognition Award out of 90 juried artists worldwide in the HerStory Exhibition by Manhattan Arts International. Old West Museum, Cheyenne, Wyoming chose four of my paintings for the New Frontiers Western Show. Yosemite Falls sold to new collectors and hangs in the foyer of their Colorado home.
Since joining Wild Wings publishing, I’ve visited wildlife preserves and zoos and studied animal anatomy while adding wildlife to my paintings. I published my first book National Parks and Beyond, which features 50 of my national parks and western landscape paintings, along with my stories about the development of the series and the process of my paintings. My book is available from my website.
