Artist Mary McClain shares a stunning portfolio of fine art photography and a story of healing and recovery. Visit her website to see more of her work.
Learning photography was at first therapy prescribed for me, to help my brain recover after two major brain tumor surgeries. My husband chose this “course” and bought me a camera and a book. He had no idea he was creating a monster.
The recovery process afforded me time to read and learn. And as I learned, photography quickly became a passion. It was fun, and I could take our twin boys with me on some photography adventures!
I was so grateful to be alive and to have the quality of life that I did. All I wanted to do was spend time with my family, and with God who saw us through.
I feel closest to God when I am outdoors in the beautiful world that he created. I especially love waterscapes—lakes, rivers, streams—and landscapes…
“Into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.” (John Muir)
I was celebrating life! It brings me joy to paint God’s beautiful artwork in camera, and I do it with a song in my heart.
“Tell the heavens and the earth to celebrate and sing; command every mountain to join in the song.” (Isaiah 49:13 CEV)
The hills really are—alive—with the sound of music. And music is what color sounds like. It’s all an artful and soulful process.
The art of my photography is accomplished first by envisioning, then by producing, images with radiant energy and light.
Radiant energy moves in waves. I love waves! I love breathing it all in—the sights, sounds, smells and warmth, and creating artful sunwaves, waterwaves, and pathwaves! Each image reminds me of how I felt when I created it.
It is my hope that my artwork can stir your emotions, to feel as if you were there. And I hope that my images give you a sense of hope, comfort, encouragement, joy, and awe at what the Divine has created.
TRULY MARY CAPTURES THE BEAUTY OF OUR WORLD, THAT GOD CREATES DAILY FOR US. THERE IS SO MUCH EMOTION IN EVERY PHOTO. YOU CAN FEEL IT.
Thank you so much Kris!
