The years of working and developing as an artist has taken me on a journey filled with adventure and pathways that have been as varied and different as one could imagine. Each has been uniquely rewarding and filled with gratitude.

Currently, my artistic focus is on landscapes and still life in both oil and acrylic paintings. Occasionally, I incorporate monoprinting and experimental techniques into my work. I am passionate about texture and strive to capture the atmosphere of a place, its light, and the passage of time.

Experiencing the location firsthand is crucial for me. It provides memories that inform my painting process. I start by traveling and documenting places through observation, sketching, notetaking, small paintings, and photography. Once back in the studio, I create a series of rough paintings to work out compositions, values, color combinations, and narrative elements.

“Bountiful Myakka” acrylic, 6.5″ x 10.5″

Since graduating in the mid-1980s from Ringling College of Art and Design with a BFA in Illustration and a minor in graphic design, I have consistently worked as an artist, graphic designer, and art educator. Working in various mediums has been rewarding, adding value to my overall artistic process and influencing my current work. To me, all forms of art and expression keep the creative juices flowing.

“Heirloom Tomatoes” acrylic, 6″ x 12″

Over the years, I have exhibited as a fine artist in galleries, storefronts, public art fairs, through private commissions, and online. Primarily a painter, I also enjoy working in collage, mixed media, printmaking, and digital painting. As a designer, I have worked for an international scientific marine laboratory and aquarium, a newspaper, an awards company, and as a freelance designer.

My illustrations have appeared on a Florida State license plate, in a national military exhibit, textbooks, publications, apparel, greeting cards, and more. About five years ago, I began creating original textile designs for an online shop. I utilized my mixed media and printmaking techniques, which are then finalized digitally.

Travel plays an essential role in my creative development. There is something special about experiencing nature, new cultures, and diverse landscapes that provides endless inspiration through the variations of light, weather, and scenery, creating lasting memories to draw from.

landscape oil painting of Cape Sounion

“Cape Sounion at Sunset” acrylic, 11″ x 14″

About ten years ago, I was fortunate to be invited to open a new Celebrity cruise ship. I served as one of their Master Artists teaching art classes, and lecturing on the onboard permanent art collection. I also conducted live painting demonstrations based on the ports of call. Traveling throughout the ports of Europe and the Mediterranean was a wonderful experience that I have treasured and continues to inspire me.

Since the cruise ship adventures, I’ve settled down into teaching others digital design, art classes, and art history. I love teaching as I believe it inspires me to become a better artist and communicator.
