I have enjoyed learning about and creating art since I was a child. When not creating, I feel that something is missing.
After a twenty-year career in public art education, I now enjoy travel and spending time in the studio developing a body of abstract work that explores the human connection with nature.
I love experimenting with diverse art media but also understand the importance and benefits of taking a deep dive into a focused art practice. I currently work with acrylic, mixed media, oil and cold wax medium on a multitude of surfaces.
I often begin with a base layer of collage, mark making and acrylic washes. Next, I apply layers of oil and cold wax medium with scrapers, palette knives, and brayers to develop texture.
Expressive linework and solvent removal techniques etch through multiple layers to reveal a history of unexpected elements to create depth and intrigue. Color is a constant challenge, as I want to use them all! Restraint, however, is necessary to communicate a clear and concise message and mood.
I want the final image to reflect the calm peaceful feeling of being out in nature which requires controlling the energetic movement created in the previous paint layers. This process satisfies my experimental nature through freedom of expression, but also challenges me to push my aesthetic skills.
My nature inspired non-objective and abstract landscape paintings include intuitive linework that connects the composition, while also infusing the hand of the artist. Multiple layers explore the dichotomy of chaos and calm that mirrors life’s journey, similar to those we observe in nature’s rhythms.
I am currently active with several north Texas area artist groups and continue to study with numerous master artists. My work has been accepted into many juried art exhibits, and I have received numerous awards. I can now be found showing at various art festivals in the Southwest, and am currently represented by Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.
My dream is to place artwork in spaces that bring joy to my collectors and create a connection to their own experiences and memories through a sense of time or place.
