I am an Australian artist and a curious artist. I paint from the heart. I’m influenced by the weather patterns, seasons and unique flora of this country.
I paint to capture the essence and transience of the land, and my connection to it, rather than trying to tame it. I paint in acrylics in varying styles from abstract to semi-abstract to representational. I’m currently exploring new mediums. I would like my artwork to be appreciated around the globe as nature and art are inspiring in whatever part of the world you are.
I began painting in Papua, New Guinea as a young man. I’ve explored different aspects of nature and the cycle of the seasons.
I continue to be inspired by other painters and the transient moments they have captured and shared in their artworks. A moment of brilliant light in the middle of the night. The stories that can be found in the depths of water. The life cycle of a single leaf or a desert that runs to the horizon. Trees and their unique and individual personalities.
My childhood, my family and the land I have lived on have also initiated certain phases or styles I become fascinated with. Be it brooding shadows in clouds, sun kissed mornings, ephemeral flowers or a river that slides lazily over smoothed stones.
Sometimes a painting paints itself and I can struggle with allowing it to follow its own volition. Do I allow it to continue its way, or do I rein it in and paint what I have envisaged? Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. Either way a painting becomes its own entity.
Those who are curious will question, challenge, explore and likely find their own connection to my paintings, uncover their own interpretations, gleaned from the pathways they alone tread.
