I grew up in the 80’s, enjoying hand produced television culture such as Hanna-Barbera, (Quickdraw Mcgraw, Herculoids, Stop that Pigeon, Jetsons) Sid and Marty Krofft productions (H.R. Puff-n-Stuff and Land of the Lost.) I was a dedicated 7 a.m. Saturday morning cartoon junkie.

 

 

My childhood imagination began bursting at the seams somewhere around 12. I began studying and practicing in the shadow arts and that meant taking night time escapades to a whole new level. At 16, I became interested in graffiti, letters and dimensions, yet never applied it to any walls; OK, well! Maybe a few.

 

 

Art and music stirred my thoughts enough to pull me into the big city of New York. I surrounded myself in the Scenes, the Sights, the Sounds and the Styles of the times. CBGB’s Sunday hardcore matinees, Thompkins Square park, Keith Haring, Basquiat, Twist, Obey.

 

 

Everything was bright in the 80’s, you might even say neon. In the 90’s, I worked with pop artist Peter Marco on the lower east side where he initiated Orchard St. hipness. It was at MarcoArt, where I learned the trade of screen printing, and did so for the likes of Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Britney Spears and hundreds of others. I assisted him on paintings and murals for Swatch Watch, Katz’s Deli, Moby, Reverend Run and many big name clients. He was a great mentor and offered me alot of art world knowledge.

 

 

After several years of working in NYC, I moved on and opened my own skate shop in Jersey. I created several in-house brands such as Vagrant skateboards, Akosm, Jill-off, and KK clothing.  Then I began a t-shirt printing operation for local industry.

 

 

When the economy crashed, I closed up shop and found a nice little studio to work out of. My childhood memories feed my imagination to paint. I never really plan out a painting. Once a concept hits me, I tend to just flow with it for a few days until a final product is achieved.

 

 

My mediums of choice are usually Montana 94 and Ironlak spray paint, acrylics and inks. Recently I have been working on layering techniques in my paintings, wheatpastes for a future street campaign, and a graphic novel based on the sub-conscience.

 

 

My curiosity and instinct always brought me to the edge of destruction. Something! There was always something there that prevented me from plunging into the blackness. I’ve seen Death more times than any mortal man should!

 

 

The Monsters; well! They have always been there.  Only recently have I decided to let them out!
