My goal as an artist is to simply create art for a living and to share my work with as many people as possible. I have a passion a drive to make things, whether they be functional or simply beautiful.
Every job I have had since college has involved some sort of art or creative leaning. In some way, all of my art tells a story. My mosaic pieces allow people to derive meaning form the objects I hand cast and the overall image they create. I enjoy the connections viewers make from each piece.
I have just finished a custom 6′ tall mosaic constructed of 15,000 hand cast gummibears and I am currently working on 4′ x 5′ mosaic portrait of Derek Jeter commissioned by Movado, to be presented to him in September. I am also constructing a 7′ tall rock candy chandelier for a candy store in Connecticut.
I alternate between custom work and my personal sculptures on a very regular basis. It allows me to take a break from some of the lager pieces and regroup so I don’t lose track of the overall theme of what I am working on. In fact, I usually have about 6-8 projects running at the same time.
I love collections and groups of objects. I have always been a little obsessed with small parts and puzzles. Much of my art these days reflects that obsession. It is a way for me to create order out of seemingly impossible challenges.
The idea of taking 35,000+ flowers and creating one cohesive image of a skull is the embodiment of this passion. The ambiguity of the title “What Remains” is deliberate. It can be a question, a statement, an affirmation, etc.
The sculpture blends my love of painting, sculpture, photography, construction, puzzles, crafting, and collecting. I am always trying to make sense of the accumulation of ideas and madness I deal with everyday.
