I am an accomplished artist proficient in my ability to create stimulating figurative works of art. At a young age, I was fascinated with mankind’s interactions with one another.
Having a preference for visual communication, “people watching” had afforded me the opportunity to seriously study gestures, mannerisms, and emotions.
Using what I observe helps to set the stage for each new painting. As I paint, these forms take on another dimension. I feel their pain and delight and all their emotions.
There is a give and take of empathy between the canvas and myself. My figures take on a life of their own through color, expression and posture. They are each telling the viewer a story – their story.
Texture is a strong presence in most of my work. Love of texture developed as a result of visits to my family’s homeland in Italy. I was fascinated with the facade of rare landmarks throughout the country. Italy’s love of scarred and graffitied natural surfaces made an impression on me. The natural rough stone quality is included in my art.
This tactile quality helps bring my paintings to life. Most recently, the use of a palette knife has found it’s way into my work. The knife, while adding texture, loosens the form, creating a more dynamic painting.
Each painting is put in motion with undertones of arbitrary colors layered on the canvas. If I have a particular posture in mind, contrasting colors will be applied to the background, working those hues into the figure.
On the other hand, there is a good deal of satisfaction for me when I begin a painting with no preconceived figure in mind. A canvas looking back at me from the easel with only assorted colors and no form can be quite perplexing but finding the missing figure can be extremely gratifying.
With each new painting, I challenge myself to produce a piece that I can someday call my Magnum Opus.
Living in the southwest, my work has been represented by several galleries in Arizona and can be found in private collections throughout the United States and Canada. My recent work was also published by the Women’s Caucus for Art in 2013.

I have seen your images using the back as the main interest, but seeing so many of your thoughtful, emotion filled artwork is a wonderful treat. Love the art path you are on and yes the palette knife adds that much more. Congrats.
Thank you Ruth Ann, that means a lot to me coming from such a talented artist as yourself
Your art is beautiful, Dyanne! But I also loved your narrative. It really expresses the passion you have for your work. I had no idea you were so completely absorbed-mind, body, spirit- when you paint! Fascinating!
Thank you Karla…I’m glad you picked up on the fact that it is a combination of mind, body and spirit. I’m lucky that all three factors, occasionally, come into play at the same time.
All of your artwork is amazing, Dyanne! Your creativity and zest for your work and life comes through in every piece you create! Thank you for sharing your talent! Congratulations!
Thank you Candace. I’m enjoying the challenge.
Have a happy & safe New Year
Dyanne, what fabulous paintings…! I feel intense and different emotions when viewing each of them, and know there would be much more detail to appreciate seeing them in person. I love to see how you have created and enriched your unique style and message. Truly impressive.
Gayla thank you for your very kind compliments. Hope you are still creating as well.
