My love of photography came early and stayed late, enduring twists and turns in life that tried to douse a fire inside that would not go out. Inevitably, there was no turning back or turning away any longer from the obvious.
I see a world defined by discrete, fleeting moments in time and place, illuminated by impressionistic washes of luminosity, expressed in forms, colors and expressions that create frames of experience imprinted in memories.
Photography is my way of expressing, and sharing, this vision.
My work embraces a passion and respect for the environment. I seek places and moments when colors can spill right out of the frame to embrace and nurture us. My images search for similarities between landscape and human forms, the gentle curves, the darkness and lightness in our lives, the delicate touches that remind how much we are one with our world.
There is no sorrow in my work, but there is joy over what is or can be, regret for what was or might have been, and reminders that time is a river that doesn’t wash away all traces of the past, which makes it imperative that we look to the future even as we see the past and live the present.
My formal training from the New York Institute of Photography provides me with the foundation to achieve technical competence in capturing a digital negative, as well as a professional responsibility to create a finished work that reflects something without the word “luck” attached to it.
My journeys take me to magnificent places that hold—and tell—many stories, as well as to places with vanishing memories of once vibrant and vital human emotion.
After shooting in the field, I will spend from several hours to weeks to develop what I see as the essence of what the image conveys.
While I work alone, whether standing in the ocean or atop a mountain range at 11,000 feet, my intention is to see well enough so that others will be drawn into the frame to share in the vision and journey.
