I am a professional reminder-er and permission granter who moonlights as an artist, author and professional speaker. I enjoy Star Wars, soft t-shirts, and brand new tubes of paint.

 

 

I’m also the author of Penguins Can’t Fly +39 Other Rules That Don’t Exist, which uncovers some of the most useless so-called rules we can find ourselves living by.

 

 

My wife Kim is my partner in crime, and we’ve made it our mission in life to help people break free from Adultitis to build better lives, businesses and teams. Together we home school our three weird kids and live in Madison, Wisconsin, where we eat way too many cheese curds.

 

 

I’ll admit that I’m probably not cynical enough to be considered a “serious artist,” which is ok by me, because I think the world is all stocked up on cynical. Whimsy is my favorite genre.

 

 

I am inspired by pop culture, children, and the wisdom, wonder and nostalgia of childhood. I try to make art that inspires, entertains, and encourages people, hopefully carrying a little reminder of what’s really important in life.

 

 

I love incorporating texture into my work to add energy, humanity, and deeper levels of meaning. I’ve been experimenting lately with oil, but most of my work is either acrylic (with a little colored pencil thrown in) or digital.

 

 

I’ve loaded Photoshop with a bunch of custom brushes that allow me to mimic my analog style. As much as I love the speed and convenience of hitting the undo button, I don’t think I’ll ever fall out of love with pushing around real paint on real canvas!

 

 

For us, “Escape Adulthood” has grown into a movement and a rallying cry. It’s not about escaping responsibilities or reality, but rather breaking free from the vile clutches of Adultitis and rediscovering the secrets of childhood that can lead to a life filled with passion, wonder, and joy.

 

 

We urge people not to settle for the life they’ve been told to live, but instead to create the one they were made for.

 

 

I encourage anyone reading this to join our small rebellion of freedom fighters breaking rules that don’t exist, rallying against Adultitis and its unadventurous version of adulthood by becoming an Escape Adulthood Insider.
