When I dream, I dream of horses and painting and so I live out my dreams in the studio.

I paint a variety of subjects. Horses however, are my favorite. I never tire of horses.

They always offer me something familiar and comforting and at the same time something new and occasionally unsettling. While the subject is equine, what they reveal to me is quite human.

Each painting is an exploration, a journey, and an adventure. I never know where it is going to lead me. Sometimes I start out with a destination in mind, but I usually veer off course and end up somewhere completely unexpected.

Most times I just start painting and let it take me where it will.

Media often dictates the direction a work will take. There is quite a physical difference in working on canvas than on Yupo or paper than panel. The tactile quality of the surface will oftentimes inspire the choice of charcoal or graphite, oil or acrylic.

I am always searching for a sense of place, a moment of understanding, a new feeling. I want my paintings to have an emotional impact and I don’t want that impact to necessarily be the same for each viewer.

I believe art is a very personal thing that is played out in a public arena. For the artwork to be meaningful to an individual, it needs to make a connection with them.
