Artist Gail Glikmann uses a variety of materials, including found objects, mosaic and metals to create fascinating and colorful sculptural art. Visit her website to see more.
I have been an artist and sculptor all of my life. From the age of fifteen, I have had a passion for sculpture and received a scholarship to the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles.
I married after graduation and focused on raising my family, but never stopped creating sculpture. Eventually, I began to teach sculpture at the American Jewish University.
My work is varied, ranging from classical sculpture, bronzes and terra cotta to mixed media. I strive to incorporate mythological and archetypal elements from many cultures and eras into my work.
In recent years, I have become fascinated with found objects, especially things that I have uncovered in junkyards. These include mosaics, metals and e-waste to name a few.
Although these objects are often the inspiration for new pieces, I tend to not stray too far from the human form, because that’s what excites me.
From time to time I have exhibited at galleries or donated pieces to various charities; however my focus has been on making, not promoting, my work.
Now, at age seventy, with a house full of sculptures in all different mediums and styles, I have decided to start showing and selling my work for the first time.
I was immediately accepted into the Los Angeles Art Association (LAAA) in January of 2016, and have since appeared in several shows and galleries in the Los Angeles area.
I’m just getting going!
Gail, your work is amazing.
