I began my photography journey as a way to escape the everyday stressors of active duty military life.
As an enlisted member of the United States Coast Guard, I was fortunate enough to travel to many places. I began to bring point and shoot cameras during my travels to get higher quality images throughout my travels.
It started as a hobby, but soon became a part of my everyday life.
I reached a turning point when I left active duty and decided to continue to pursue photography. I bought a Nikon D750 and began to take it more seriously in hopes of capturing more of the beauty that the world has to offer.
I am a landscape photographer who specializes in vibrant colors. I want to add energy and bring emotion to my images. In an effort to address my own anxieties and fears, I used photography as a great way to reconnect to my higher self.
As I continued to develop as a photographer and became more successful, I decided to buy a Sony A7riii camera. It allows me to capture even more beauty, depth and the dynamic range of each image.
Sometimes I shoot images in “brackets” where I take variable shots of the same scene with different lighting or exposure. Later, I combine them to create an image that has as much detail and clarity as possible.
I am a self-taught photographer. Although I did not go to school to learn photography or follow any particular photographer’s style, I knew that I wanted to take great pictures. I found that the connection of the camera, the lens, the scene, my breath, my eyes, my ears and all that I am able to absorb in my surroundings offers a great way to cope with life.
I primarily shoot in San Diego, California, but I also travel. Originally from Philadelphia, I decided to join the Coast Guard in 2004. That journey led me from the White House to the Middle East and even the Aurora Borealis in Alaska.
I hope my perspective, wisdom and nuanced experiences will be experienced while viewing my work. Although I do like to use titles that invoke thought or meaning to my images, the final authority always rests with the viewer. If you are in need of healing, calm, serenity and a way to appreciate nature, you may find my work suits you. Take care and stay blessed.
