Some artists want to capture a specific moment in time.

 

 

I’ve always been more interested in expressing movement and change. My paintings are inspired by the forces and cycles of the natural world. I see nature as a metaphor for the human condition.

 

 

I am a mixed media artist with painting as a first love. It is a love affair that started in childhood in Colorado, was put on hold for a number of years, but persisted and evolved into a lifetime involvement in art.

 

 

That has included teaching drawing, painting and design as a college professor. I’ve helped create and run artists’ collectives and worked as a curator, all while raising a family and moving from one place to another in connection with my husband’s career.

 

 

I’ve been privileged to visit many countries for the purpose of exhibiting my work. I was fortunate to receive a two-year Fulbright Grant to Turkey. In each new place, it was artmaking and nature that helped me adjust and stay grounded.

 

 

I often paint on birch wood panels. They are easy to handle and require no framing, although some collectors prefer to frame them. The smaller panels are sometimes arranged in a composite format, which allows for versatility of presentation on the wall.

 

 

I prefer working with oil paint for its slow drying time, which allows for workability and discoveries. I no longer think in terms of landscape, but of expressing our connection to the natural world. Recognizing that we are part of nature is essential to our individual spiritual growth and to our collective survival.

 

 

We relocated from the Washington, DC area to Florida’s Gulf Coast just as the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. After decades of busyness and rushing to meet deadlines, quietude suddenly set in. I experienced social distancing as a state of being sequestered in paradise! However, it has been gratifying to realize that meanwhile many of my paintings exist out there in the world in both private and public collections.

 

 

Painting is a meditative experience for me and my hope is that a similar energy conveys to my viewers as well.

 

 

I am excited about new works in progress and those yet to come. I continue to chase light, beauty and healing imagery as well as working to connect the parts. Ultimately, there is nothing constant except change.
