Since I was a child, I’ve always known that my life would be connected to art.
At ten, during drawing lessons, my teacher would ask me to sketch samples of what she wanted us to do on the chalkboard to show the other students.
When I was eleven, I was already drawing lifelike portraits.
I attended the Latvian Academy of Arts in Riga, Latvia. After I graduated, I got married and had two children, both of whom are grown and have found ways to connect to art. My son Tom is an architect in London, and my beautiful daughter Krista is studying to become an art therapist.
While my children were growing up, I spent many years as an art teacher, both in schools and as a studio instructor. I created art as well, but I painted too little for myself. My other work took most of my energy.
I finally left all that behind. I have begun to follow my dream of being an artist, dedicating my life and myself to that dream. Since then, I’ve participated in a number of exhibitions in Russia and Latvia.
My passion is painting portraits, but I also love to paint urban environments, cityscapes and landscapes. This gives me the opportunity to prove that I am gifted at painting a variety of subjects.
I am fascinated by cities. When I was little, I lived in the country. I was jealous of those who lived in the capital city. The visual rhythm, perspectives, lights and reflections on glass and wet asphalt found in a city inspires and stimulates my creative spirit.
Although I am drawn to the beauty and power of a cityscape, I find myself focusing on what exists inside the urban environment. The variety of people who live there have such different lives.
For the most part, I use acrylics and oils when painting. I also enjoy working with many other mediums, such as watercolor, photography, collage and digital art. I have created illustrations, sketches and cartoons. When working on digital images, I only use my own photography and material.

Indeed your cityscape paintings are amazing. I’m glad that Baiba stuck with her true calling. With the distractions of outside world, we tend to get deviated from doing what we love. I’m glad that your paintings can now see the light of day. Thank you for sharing your art!
I’m very grateful!
Super!
