“Light in the Darkness” oil, 20″ x 24″
My talent emerged at the young age of eleven, which brings my painting and drawing experience to almost 60 years. Although I have been painting for many years, I consider myself to be an emerging professional.

“Setting in Yellow” watercolor, 30″ x 36″
Watercolor was my first painting media and is still a favorite. The other favorite is oil. I never went to art school or college until my late 50’s and that is where I discovered my love for art history. I was inspired to pursue a second degree in Art History alongside my B.F.A. in Fine Art. Art history has definitely influenced my compositions, especially the use of symbolism in a still life to convey a narrative.

“Keep an Open Mind” oil, 10″ x 8″
Most of my work is either realistic or surrealistic in style and many of my compositions are narratives or statements utilizing symbolism, color, texture and atmosphere to portray ideas and/or actions in the human arena. I strive to make my visual commentaries surpass the written word, a limitless source of thought-provoking images.

FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) oil, 24″ x 24″
The inspiration behind most of my compositions often comes from my personal experiences of triumph and tragedy—painting has been my best therapist! I also find a lot of inspiration from our society (current and historic), religion, technology, sociology, to name just a few.

“Time Traveler” oil, 20″ x 16″
Several artists from history have influenced my style and content such as Dali, Magritte, Georges De La Tour and the Dutch Masters of the Renaissance. I have a great love for realism and surrealism, which I find the most challenging in skill and content.

“Toying in the Realm” oil, 24″ x 36″
My objective is to hold the observers’ attention long enough that they will recognize the symbolism and wonder about the narrative presented. I want the viewer to question the meaning and form their own conclusions. Each interpretation is unique.

“Purple Rain” oil, 12″ x 12″
I love to hear what my paintings convey to my audience. It’s so enlightening, often relaying ideas I never considered.

“Balance of Nature” oil, 16″ x 20″
In the past decade I’ve had occurrences of health related issues that affected my progress in my art career. I currently have plans for new paintings for competitions.

“Ode to Michelangelo” oil, 36″ x 36″
For more exposure, I also wish to pursue a path to gallery representation and more contact with collectors. I also love to teach and hope to create some workshops in the future.
