When I retired, I started painting in acrylic and collage. I was heavily influenced by my love of modern dance, jazz and the arts, which began while living in New York City in my early twenties.

I love the play of alcohol inks. There is a wonderful balance between allowing the inks to flow intuitively and using a variety of tools to control the final placement to form my overall composition.

My work typically has an urban backdrop. I experiment with how color relationships can create or express a particular mood. Most recently I’ve been exploring mixed media using (made and found) collage papers to assist in capturing a story.

I love drawing with ink because it brings tension and focus. You never know how an art piece will evolve. Also, the use of black and white opens up so many other creative possibilities.

I create vibrant, psychedelic works, full of color, movement and spiritual inspiration. My paintings and mixed media pieces explore the expressive potential of bold colors, geometric forms and abstract shapes.

 

 

Amber Housouer 

This piece is the first one I created using mixed media. The face is in a trance, a dreamlike state, which is what I get into when creating surrealistic worlds and paintings.

With the help of my creativity, I try to convey admiration for the forces of nature and man who was able to achieve harmony with the forces of nature. From travelling around Bulgaria and observing everyday life, subjects gradually emerge.
