As a woman of a certain age, I have come to understand how precious and fleeting life is. After experiencing a tragic loss, I’ve come to appreciate how brief my time here might be.
My response to this loss was a deep remembering of my lifelong desire to paint, to create as an artist. My heart was opened to the beauty around me.
I am a gardener and love flowers, especially peonies and roses. Therefore, flowers became beloved subject matter. I live in western Montana and find the mountainous landscape provides ample inspiration.
Plein air painting, and the alla prima (all at once) method put me out in the landscape and began my artistic journey. This practice gave my eyes a solid foundation for learning to see shapes, color and tonal values. The grandeur all around me inspires my inner artist, especially the characters of the landscape, the gestures made by trees.
How the light falls on my subjects, especially back lighting, stirs me like none other. I use oil paint as my medium of choice. I love the rich and luscious quality it provides. I’m a representational artist because the literal approach is a universal visual language that hopefully connects most easily with my viewer.
My education always centered around art. I drew faces and people as a child and was very excited to finally study art in college. Figure drawing class was my favorite. I received a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Montana, finally graduating at 50 years of age with honors.
As a painter, this time in my life has provided me the opportunity to grow as an artist. I’ve studied under contemporary artists Camille Przewodek, Tim Horn, and Scott Christensen.
My goal as a painter is to become a better communicator of the beauty I experience in nature. My idea of beauty always stems from the effects produced by light, from the most intimate still life subjects, to scenes of the vast landscapes where I live.

A lovely style. March on the Bitterroot River is my favorite.
I don’t normally visit because what artists share…but your “honesty” in expression, reminds me of my own!!
ALWAYS searching for that “special” spot to capture!! Would be nice to visit more, and share ideas…
If not, not to worry…I don’t make “demands” with anyone!!
Take care… and continue the life long ‘SEARCH’!!
