I am a ceramic artist living in Creston, British Columbia, Canada. I specialize in quirky, humorous, colourful sculptures loaded with detail and unique surface treatments.

I’ve always loved reading stories, and especially stories full of beautiful illustrations. Through my sculptures, I strive to evoke the feeling that there is a story it is trying to tell, whether real or imagined by the viewer. I love hearing what a particular piece means to the viewer, what they see, and how it can be so completely different from what I intended.

Since becoming  a ceramic artist, I have always admired people who were willing to channel parts of themselves into their work. They tell stories through their personal experiences. In contrast, I never felt I had anything worth saying or life experiences to tap into that would be interesting enough to share with people.

I kept my work “shallow” and myself hidden. At one point when life’s challenges left me so lost and hurt, I felt the need to crack open the door to where we keep all the scariest things buried. I let the light shine in.

This body of work has emerged over the last few years. It represents a time of my life that was undoubtedly the hardest to come to terms with, migrate through and then embrace fully.

Using my own form of “art therapy” was the catalyst that forced me to work through my traumas. I brought parts of my life to the forefront that I never wanted to admit were even happening, let alone share with the whole world.

In doing so, I have truly experienced a transformation in my life unlike anything I could ever have imagined for myself. Through this art-filled, healing journey, I transferred my trauma and then joyful experiences from my mind and body into clay sculptures. In doing so, I have uncovered my true self.

I’m now living my best life as authentically and happily as possible. I feel I am finally the person I was always meant to be. I truly hope my work will be the inspiration for others to find the courage to do the same.

“There’s a peculiar magic in realizing you are not the same person who started the journey. It’s not a loss of who you were but an evolution into the person you were always meant to become.”
