When I tell people I’m a photographer, one of the first things they ask is what kind of photography I do. For some this may be an easy question to answer: they photograph weddings, or family portraits, or pets. For me, it’s a longer story.
I create photographs for people to brighten their walls and enhance their spaces.
My work is driven by my desire to highlight moments and details and share the beauty I see with others. It could be a striking landscape, a colorful sunset, or the detail of a snowflake. Whatever the subject, it’s something that captures my imagination and inspires me.
My favorite subject is the ocean. It’s where I go to relax and energize my creative soul and I never run out of things to photograph when I’m there. I’m also in love with piers and shipwrecks. There’s something about manmade objects taking on the power of the sea that calls to me.
When I can’t get to the coast I enjoy being out in nature—that’s when mountains, trees, and flowers become my muse. When I’m outside and I take the time to slow down, my curiosity is awakened and I discover things that might otherwise go unseen. A path into the woods, the way the light hits the trees, or well-placed clouds above rocks, can all become photographs.
I graduated with my MFA in photography in 2016, but by then it had been a while since I had discovered my love of making photographs. At first photography was a way to document my floral designs, capturing textures and colors in bridal bouquets and decorations. Later, I sold prints on Etsy, sharing my passion for interior design by helping others add art to their homes.
Home is something precious for me; it’s a sanctuary. That’s why creating art for others’ homes is such an honor and a source of joy. My wish is that when someone hangs one of my photos on their wall it makes them feel something: happiness, peace, positivity, joy.
I want my work to help buyers create a space that is an expression of who they are. I want for it to elevate the rooms it’s in. This is why I create.
