I make loose, expressive, abstract paintings, often referencing nature. I’ve been a maker for as long as I can remember, playing, exploring and learning my world.
I continue that exploration in my art practice today. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing and painting from California State University, Long Beach, plus advanced study in classes, workshops and mentorships.
I work both in California and at my home studio in Florida.
While I incorporate the formal principles of art making, I utilize tools, media and an intuitive process that best conveys the feelings of the work in abstract form. The subject dictates the media and support.
I use acrylic, oil, watercolor and pastel pigments, graphite, charcoal, collage, and whatever other mark making implement I might discover. I paint on canvas, paper and wood supports.
My process involves building up layers of paint and other media. On wood supports I paint, draw and collage in layers, then sand to reveal something new. Then I paint and draw again—maybe sand again, add more, then take away, building up to form the image.
The process can be fast or slow, taking days to months to reveal the image. Each painting is a learning process for me. Discovering new relationships of line, color, shape, and texture, and the interaction with each other in the work I am making.
I cannot overstate how lucky and satisfied I feel being on this creative path as an artist.
I show my work in galleries, private shows, showrooms and lobbies, public art fairs and commissions as well as my website and Instagram.
